Vampire: The Masquerade ? Bloodlines is a 2004 action role-playing game set in White Wolf's World of Darkness; it was developed by Troika Games and released by Activision for Microsoft Windows. Based on White Wolf Publishing's role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, Bloodlines follows a newly created vampire who seeks to uncover the truth behind a recently discovered relic that heralds the end of all vampires. Bloodlines lets the player assign their character to one of several vampire clansach with unique powers, customize their combat and dialog abilities and progress through the game with violent and nonviolent methods.

The game is presented from first- and third-person perspectives. It offers an open world structure, allowing the player to complete side missions away from the primary storyline by moving freely between the available hubs: Santa Monica, Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles and Chinatown. Bloodlines development began in 2001 and took three years. The process was turbulent; the 32-member team struggled to finalize the game and released it in an unfinished state on November 16, 2004.

Bloodlines sold fewer than eighty-thousand copies during its initial release, which was considered a poor performance. It divided critics at the time; although they praised the game's writing, full-voice acting, scale of choice and influence on the game world, they criticized its technical flaws. It was Troika Games' last production before its failure in early 2005, when it was unable to secure additional projects. The game has a cult following as a rarely replicated example of gameplay and narrative. As of 2014, Bloodlines has been developed for ten years by its fans, who have supplied fixes and restored lost and deleted content.

Questions & Answers

  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines fire woman?

i was playing Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines and some woman carrying a flaming torch came running towards me from some alleyway and started attacking me, i wanted to know who

She's a vampire hunter (called witch hunter in the game). You probably did a few Masquerade violations (i.e. you probably let a mortal see you doing vampire-like stuff, like feeding). On your character sheet page there are five "masks" on the upper right corner. A number of them will be slashed over. That's the amount of Masquerade violations your character has accumulated. The more violations you get, the more often will you encounter random witch hunters trying to off you. I hear that with four violations, it gets rather annoying as you encounter them at almost every corner. If you do five violations, you get a very short cutscene and the game will be over. To "undo" the violation, you need to get Masquerade redemptions. You can get redemptions if you help protect the Masquerade somehow. For example, in the early stages of the game you get a quest from LaCroix via email, where he asks you to retrieve a sample of werewolf blood from the local hospital and thus prevent mortals to examine it. When you get the blood, you get a Masquerade Redemption. Unfortunately, if you already have a full Masquerade "health bar" and get a Masquerade Redemption, it does not do anything. For a list of quests that give Masquerade Redemption, see here: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/711/711280p... It's a walkthrough, so there are spoilers, but if you read just the beginning of the quest entries you should be fine.

  • Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines clan choice?

All right, so I'm going to play myself some Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, but I cannot settle on my clan. It is only between Toreador or Tremere, and I'm thinking of a

They are both somewhat 'unusual' vampires within the World of Darkness. Toreador live bizarrely close to humans, and paradoxically behave the most humanlike even though Toreador are just as dead, evil, and wretched as the next vampire. (Their manipulation of humans is commendable though.) And the Tremere's twisted mysticism makes even Vampires uncomfortable. From an RP perspective, it could be cool being an untrustable 'outsider' that practice what even Vampires consider to be taboo. From an RP perspective, Toreador might give you a bit more enjoyment if you like that appeal of being a monster in plain sight. There are also mods available that could heighten this experience (Such as mods that allow you to Embrace other people)

  • Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines - Crash?

Okay, so I know that people have been asking frequently about this. But I've been searching and searching with google, yahoo, and other search engines about how to resolve this

Ahh.. Vampire TM Bloodlines. Good time memories. Flexible gaming, a decent story, and exactly what a vampire game should be. And though the gameplay was great, the actual programming was not. Troika, the developer, just didn't continue to do the necessary work, except for the relatively small fix of the 1.2. People with Vista had problems. People with certain video cards had problems. People who smelled funny and said the wrong word combinations while doing a sacrifice to the game god would find themselves unable to play the game. Yes, it was a tough game to install and play unless you had the system Troika developed for. To top it off, the copy protection also caused problems, not just for those 5 years ago, but even today. But then you have a handful of people that look at you funny and say they NEVER had ANY problems installing and running the game. And you just want to claw their eyes out and drain them of any liquid. So there's the bad news. The good news? Sorry. The unofficial patch. Bite down hard and go through another download. You know why it's so good? The last time I played VTMB about a year ago, it was unofficial patch 5.9. Do you know what this means, it being all the way up to 6.8? That you have legions of people still playing the game. I'll assume you downloaded it from Steam. They could at least have had the courtesy to give you this patch. That would have just saved you time for a hundred other problems you would encounter with the game. If you have vista, change the compatibility over as an XP. I had problems with this before doing the unofficial patch. After the patch, it was no longer necessary. Sound card drivers were causing me problems too. The wrong codec pack will bring you down and crash the game. That error, filesystem_stdio.dll, can be evil, and may mean you simply are missing it. Don't download it from some site, though. Read the link I gave below for it. This should NOT be the problem, however, and you should try everything else before you do this. Finally, I gave you a link to a forum that posts bugs and such for the game, as well as the fixes. Because the cause of the problem has to do with more than one thing, and it's impossible to find out exactly what it is, you must be willing to try a lot of other things. But the first thing I would try is patching it to the 6.8, even if you have to wait another 2 weeks. Good luck.

  • Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines problem?

I don't know what I did, but now I only have 1 Masquerade point. Is there any way or, I don't know, cheat, so I can get more Masquerade.. I am pretty far (didn't get to

There are several quests that let you redeem Masquerade points. To see which of them do, look at these walkthroughs and search for the phrase "Masquerade Redemption" in the text. http://uk.faqs.ign.com/articles/711/7112... http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/914819-vampir... As for cheats, I've looked through various cheat lists but I haven't discovered any for fixing the Masquerade violations. I don't think such a cheat exists. You're probably getting attacked by vampire hunters very often, but otherwise you should be able to finish the game even if you have just one point. Just be sure not to violate the Masquerade again, otherwise it's game over. You probably already know how to avoid doing that - don't feed where witnesses can see you, if you're a Nosferatu don't walk in the open (unless Obfuscated), if you're a Gangrel don't use Animalism in public, etc. Hope this helps. Have fun with the game.

  • Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines?

is there going to be another game ... i know white wolf is gone but i would love to play another one of these with a Malkavian, Toreador or Gangrel

you mean troika thats the developer of bloodlines and they went bankrupt shortly after white wolf the creator and publisher of the table top pen and paper rpg is still around the game before bloodlines ( redemption ) was also published by activision so activision probably still has the rights if a third game will come though is anybodies guess

  • Is vampire the masquerade bloodlines worth $20?

I've read that its pretty short and a lot of people are having compatibility issues so i dont want to get it and it not be worth $20. I've checked and it has a very rare

I think AL mistakenly thought the question was about the table-top game, not the video game. For the record, I like the table-top a lot, too. Anyway, I definitely think that the video game is worth it. I have Windows 7 64 bit too, and I was able to get it to work easily. I know there are people who did have problems, though. If you do too, there are many sites giving advice on how to fix them. Here is one forum where you can ask questions about that: http://planet-vampire.net/forum/index.ph... Just search for "Windows 7" In that forum you will also find a link and tech support for the Unofficial Patch, which you need. The game's developers closed before they could get more than one patch out, and the UP fixes the bugs left behind. The game itself is an underrated gem. It has great characterization and voice-acting (if you're familiar with Futurama, early on you'll hear a voice that sounds very familiar, for example), amazing atmosphere and a great story. A couple things you should know about the game to make a decision: 1) It's an RPG. There's plenty of action in the game, but it's not its main feature. 2) It's a very dark game, both literally and figuratively. You're playing a vampire, so in the game it's always night, and it's a game in the World of Darkness (the RPG setting this game is based on), with violence, dark themes, and more than a few insane, creepy or twisted characters. The game also has a lot of replay value. You can choose from seven vampire clans, and each has its own supernatural abilities. Each clan gives the game its own flavor, especially Nosferatu and Malkavians. I strongly suggest choosing one of the other five clans for your first playthrough, though. Nosferatu have to stick to the sewers and Malkavians are insane. Their dialog options are very strange and their "mad insight" gives quite a few spoilers for the story's twists. The best thing about the game is of course playing a vampire, complete with bloodsucking and superpowers. And it's not a short game at all, on the contrary. I can't say how much time it takes me to finish it, but probably around 30 to 40 hours. Probably more if it's your first playthrough, since you'll want to do a bit of exploring, too.

  • Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines question?

You know how at the beginning of the game if you go into the clinic Heather Poe is laying down in room 1 dying? And you get the chance to either feed her your vampire blood and make

Your vampire need to know about ghouls and the healing power of vampire blood to get the possibility to feed her his blood. There are two people who you need to talk to, Knox (the ghoul whom you first meet in front of the Hospital, and later in the Asylum) and Mercurio, to get this info. I've read in some places that you only need to talk to one of them, but I don't know how accurate that is since I've always talked to both by the time I get to Heather. Anyway, the wounded Mercurio tells you how the vampire blood is the only thing keeping him alive because his bad wounds. And Knox tells you what Ghouls are. If you've already finished the Jeanette and Therese fight, you're already very far into the game. I know you can get Knox to talk about ghouls still, but I don't know about Mercurio. Good luck and have fun.

  • Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines?

I'm currently playing the game mentioned above on Windows XP Home Edition and the one thing that's been bothering me is the game's loading speed. The speed is pretty

keep in mind that the game is build on the scource engine it was the first game on the scource engine even before half life 2 ( now thats ironic ) the engine in bloodlines is slow and buggy and troika went belly up before they could adress the points including some game crippeling bugs having said that you can still play bloodlines just fine first of all download the 1.2 patch its IMPORTANT that you do this it fixes some game breaking bugs and speeds the game up a bit the best thing you can do to get the game loading faster is increase the ram it cites 384 mb as a maximum thats garbage the more ram you have the better the same goes for your video card the better your video card is the happier off you and the game wil be also run as little as possible in the back ground when you play the game the computer is working hard enough as it is to get xp and the game running
