Saints Row: The Third is a 2011 open world action-adventure video game developed by Volition and published by THQ. It is the third title in the Saints Row series. As in the previous games, the player-character leads the Third Streets Saints gang in a turf war against three rival gangs using a variety of weapons and vehicles in single-player and cooperative play. The series, and especially this title, is known for its crazy scenarios and lighthearted gameplay. It was released on November 15, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and later abroad.

Game development began by late 2008. There was high staff turnover from the previous Saints Row team with one-fifth of the final 100-person staff having worked on a previous title in the series. They aimed to improve on the series by giving the game a coherent tone, and found it in films such as Hot Fuzz and the game's signature sex toy bat. Saints Row: The Third was built in the Havok physics engine.

The game received "generally favorable" reviews, according to video game review score aggregator Metacritic. Reviewers noted its general zaniness and praised its customization options. Critics thought the setting was insipid and that its humor occasionally fell flat, and others thought the game perfected the Saints Row formula. It was a nominee for Best Narrative at the 2012 Game Developers Conference, an IGN Editor's Choice, and a recipient of perfect scores from GamesRadar and G4. A complete edition including the three downloadable content packs was released a year after the original release, and its planned Enter the Dominatrix expansion became the game's sequel, Saints Row IV.

Questions & Answers

  • Far Cry 3 or Saints Row the Third?

I really wanted far CRy 3 but nobody none of my friends play but if i got saints row 3 I have a couple people to play with and I play on ps3

Personally i would get Saints Row the Third just because i'm a big fan of 3rd person sandbox games similar to GTA. Far cry is an amazing game and i enjoyed it a lot, however the main story is short, the side content is decent but repetitive and it hasn't much replay value. Saints Row's main missions are slightly longer then Far Cry's, about just as good in terms of storyline but Far Cry's replay value doesn't come anywhere close to Saints Row's. It's also a lot more enjoyable to play with friends, Far Cry's co-op is dull and so is the online multiplayer. I used to always play Saints Row and GTA with my mates online, and we couldn't stop laughing/run out of things to do.

  • GTA V or Saints Row The Third?

Did you see the new GTA V trailer? Would you play it or Saints Row? In my opinion I would buy GTA 5, I mean look at the super cool graphics and the city plus the huge mountain and

Well seeing as Saints Row comes out in two weeks and GTA 5 in a year or so and we only have a minute or so of trailer footage, I'll be buying Saints Row!! Even if they were out at the same time I'd probably end up buying both anyway since I enjoy both series for different reasons!! Saints Row for the over the top gameplay, weapons, cars and customization etc and GTA for the realistic take on the gameplay, story etc! :)

  • How is Saint Row the third for Xbox 360?

When this Saints Row The Third Genkibowl VII DLC Coming For Xbox. I really love this Saints Row The Third game and now waiting for this Genkibowl VII DLC come. Do you know any idea

Saints Row Xbox 360 A video game's first responsibility -- arguably its only responsibility -- is to show the player a good time. To say that Saints Row: The Third is a good time would be a severe understatement. Running naked around the fictional city of Steelport wiping out rival gangs with mind-controlling octopi delivered some of the most fun I've had this year. There may be a tendency to dismiss Saints Row as a Grand Theft Auto clone (it isn't) or as juvenile antics (it is) but when you just want to indulge in some mindless violence and sexual depravity, this will more than suffice. Saints Row the Third takes you out of Stilwater, the setting for the first two games, and drops you into the new city of Steelport. Three local gangs are well-entrenched, but the Third Street Saints aren't going to settle for fourth place. Your job throughout Saints Row the Third is to take over this new city and crush the competition. After an intro mission sets up your exit from Stilwater you'll get the chance to customize your character. Customization plays a big part in the entire game, from your body to your dress to your vehicles. I love that, at a glance, no two players' games will look alike -- one will star a voluptuous vixen in a cocktail dress while the next may feature a blue sumo wrestler with cat eyes that speaks in zombie gibberish. Before the credits roll you'll catsit a tiger, play a hilarious text adventure, get a sex change, hack up Mexican wrestlers with a chainsaw, visit a Tron-like computer world, and participate in many other ridiculous leisure activities. Saints Row the Third can be accused of being many things, but repetitive isn't one of them. When you need a break from story missions you'll find loads of optional activities all over Steelport that boost your street cred and earn you cash. My favorites are the Insurance Fraud missions, holdovers from Saints Row 2 that ask you to run into traffic and cause as much bodily harm to yourself as possible before time runs out. Pretty much anything you choose to do in Saints Row: The Third has been incentivized and will earn you either money or respect. Money can get you territory, weapons, upgrades, and threads. Respect works like experience points, unlocking new abilities such as "infinite sprint" and "no fall damage." Everything from near collisions while driving to running down the street naked earns you respect, which is fantastic game design -- we're constantly rewarded for simply playing the game. I was addicted to maximizing my hourly income and planning my character upgrades. By completing certain story missions you gain access to badass vehicles like a transforming hover jet and a pixilated retro-game tank. In the spirit of staying out of the way of the player's good time, Saints Row 3 gives you an infinite supply of these recreational vehicles in your cribs. So grab an F-69 VTOL hover jet, take it joy riding, crash it, then go home and grab another. As many times as you want. Or, you can have it delivered right to you, wherever you are. Amazing. That's the beauty of Saints Row: The Third: it's not trying to be anything more than a fun game. It's not realistic, it's not "art," it's just a really good time. That said, some of the immature characters, dialogue, and premises do make me cringe. People often swear for no reason in a way that feels really forced, and a pimp that only speaks in auto-tune and calls every girl a ***** gets old fast. But the character that matters most, my character, really won me over. I played as a lady (well, a female -- she's definitely not a lady), and despite the fact that she's an amoral mass murderer, I believed she cared about her friends. Plus, I really liked the voice actress portraying her. The licensed soundtrack -- heard on car radios throughout the game -- includes many fantastic songs ranging from hip-hop to electronic to classical. You can toggle stations on and off or build a playlist of all the songs you like. Saints Row: The Third unfortunately falls apart at the end with a less-than-satisfying conclusion. There are two endings (you'll get to see both), one a super downer and one that doesn't make any sense. However, following the story is just half the fun, and when I completed the campaign after 14 hours of play I had only finished half of the side missions with an overall 72 percent completion. Many good times await after the campaign ends for those that want to achieve 100 percent. While definitely not up to the standards of recent games like Uncharted 3 or Rage, Saints Row 3's visuals go easy enough on the eyes. I love the neon-lit towering skyscrapers of Steelport, but down in the streets things can seem quiet and lifeless. This is an open world but I wouldn't say it's a living world. Mayhem activities ask you to destroy as much as you can before time runs out, but you may be at a loss for stuff to blow up. As you tear around town the traffic magically appears in front of your car. Granted, I only noticed that pop-up while driving. Saints Row: The Third allows you to play the entire campaign cooperatively online or via system link. Inviting a friend or joining a game couldn't be simpler, but playing cooperatively yields mixed results. While the nature of two players running around with rocket launchers and tanks can create comical chaos, not all of these missions seem designed for cooperative play -- visiting players may sometimes feel like a third wheel. But, happily, all progress carries over to your single-player game. SOO!!! News flash: people find sex and violence entertaining. Saints Row: The Third gives the people what they want and drops us into an open world adult theme park where we can treat ourselves to delightful acts of bloodshed and perversion. It doesn't take itself too seriously and only asks that you don't, either.

  • MW3 or Saints Row: The Third?

i have battlefield 3 so don't say that. should i get MW3 the reason why i want it is for its story and multiplayer im not a fan-boy enjoy all three of these games and planning to

Well, i was asking myself the same question... Mw3 or saints row. Modern warfare is just going to be the same as the other two, with just a 5 hour long campaign, and repetitive multiplayer. Infinity ward are just money hungry basterds that can whip up another CoD game in less then 10 minutes. Why don't you buy a game that the creators have actually put time and effort into? Saints row Will give You a great long experience that will fully satisfy you. Will a great long campaign. Even free roaming looks extremely fun! ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eN2-WSyRu... ) Yeah, sure modern warfare is a great experience , but it just will not live up to Saints row.

  • Saints Row the Third vs. GTA IV?

which is better? I played saints row 3 a few days ago. it was cool and pretty fun, but i hear GTA IV is better. any suggestions?

Saints row, is one of those games where its FUN. like you do the craziest things and its really fun, where you just dont want to put it down. its also a pretty good open world game. (you also can customize more) where GTA, is more of a realistic kind of game. like its a game where it can happen in real life,.... its really more of an opinion. I like both. Saints Row can be fun but sometimes to much of something can make the game bad. GTA is really realistic, which is great *its fun too* so im more of gta but saints row is also good.....

  • Saints Row the Third or Grand Theft Auto 4?

I'm turning 17 next Friday, so you know what that means~ I'll finally be able to buy myself M-rated video games. I have already determined that I'll only be able to buy 1

I do, indeed, own and play both. By the way, if you have a PS3, Saints Row the Third is free right now on the PSN, so you could potentially get both. If you have an Xbox, then you must choose unfortunately. It really depends on your style of gameplay, and by that I mean, what you would rather have in a game? I'll break both of them down. Saints Row: Saints Row the Third is much more "over-the-top" than GTA 4. By that I mean, if you like lazer rifles, heli-jets, a car that sucks people up and fires them out of a cannon and a deadly phallic-bat, then Saints Row is the game for you. The physics in Saints Row is a lot more like a cartoon and relies much more on rag dolls than GTA 4. Destruction is a bit more cartoony as well. Objects tend to clip a little bit more and they don't react nearly as realistically but this can make for some pretty funny situations. Gameplay in terms of a "Grand Theft Auto" sense is a little lacking. There are more cars, more helicopters and more jets but there isn't as much to do with them. You can get into big police vs gang vs you battles, but they get stale pretty quick, especially if your weapons are upgraded. This is probably the first open-world game where there's LESS to do as you progress as opposed to being MORE. I have beaten all the side missions along with the campaign and I'm pretty ready to put the game down, which sucks because it's a great game. There is also a MUCH higher degree of customization, more costumes, piercing, eyeglasses, tattoos and stuff I haven't even discovered because I don't care about any of that, haha! GTA 4: GTA 4 is a pretty classic GTA game. Steal cars, beat people up, use cheats to get the good weapons and you're off to the races. Unfortunately, the class of cars is lacking and there's only two helicopters to use, which is a little boring and there's no planes. It's definitely a more straight-edge version of San Andreas and focuses more on a realistic game and physics engine. This makes driving a car feel more real, but cars in general are much more awkward to handle. Faster cars are much tighter when turning and accelerate smoother, but handle like a fat man on a unicycle overall. The campaign was much more diverse and more fun in GTA 4 (in my opinion, Saints Row gets a little ridiculous at points) and when you beat the campaign there feels like more to do. Fly up to a building, spawn a motorcycle and then drive off and see if you can live. Much harder to do in Saints Row, and the multiplayer is superior as well. Saints Row lacks in the multiplayer department. This is just touching the base of these two games and both are really fun in their own way, but after beating Saints Row and doing all the side missions (it kept me that hooked) I'm sort of done with the game, left with not much to do in a big town filled with a bunch of rag dolls to shoot. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game, and I'm certainly still going to play it, but GTA 4 feels like it has more replay value. GTA 4 feels like a true open-world, where Saints Row makes the mistake of feeling like a sandbox when it has the ability to really be an open-world. More cars, more planes, more helicopters, more side missions, it's a more diverse and a much bigger game, but a much smaller and more boring world to play in. Honestly, buy whichever one sounds more fun and get the other later because they are both great games.

  • Should I get skyrim or Saints row the third?

I've never played any of the elder scrolls games but I played fallout 3 and new Vegas and loved them both. Same goes for saints row. I'll eventually get them both but I can

Personally, I would go for Skyrim over Saints Row because I LOVE the action rpg genre :) BUT in reality, it all comes down to what you prefer. Saints row is more of a modern, fast-paced, awesome action gameplay and the has the most ridiculous weapons. (which are awesome by the way) For me, Saints row is a comical version of the GTA franchise. Skyrim is fantastic if you're into the fantasy/action rpg genre. I wouldn't say that Skyrim is as fact-paced as Saints Row because it is an rpg afterall HOWEVER, the gameplay is super immersive and lots of action-y moments :) Overall, both are MASSIVE games that has hours of fun gameplay. There is a huge variety of missions/quests to complete. They both have a deep customization system. In a nutshell, they're both awesome :D
